Two Charged in $126,000 International Student Fraud Scheme
The scam started with a promise: pay us, and we’ll cover your tuition. According to People Gazette, Hardik Dave and Jainishkumar Patel instead handed international students fake admission documents while pocketing about $126,000.
The investigation kicked off in February 2025 after a tip from Lambton College. CBSA officers raided the suspects’ homes and businesses, pulling evidence from electronic devices before digging deeper with forensic warrants.
On June 2, 2026, both men were hit with four counts each of fraud over $5,000, forging documents, and counselling misrepresentation. Dave is due in Ontario Court this July. Patel has reportedly fled Canada, and authorities are hunting for him internationally.
