Monsignor Stephen Rossetti just lost the most dramatic job title in religion — and it’s entirely his own doing. The Washington archdiocese’s official exorcist was fired this week after claiming on a live YouTube broadcast that UFOs are demonic entities in disguise. “Demons like to hide,” he said. “It’s my personal belief that probably many if not most of these UFO sightings are in fact demons.” Cardinal Robert McElroy wasn’t having it, saying Rossetti’s comments “gravely undermine the Church’s very precise teaching on the devil, demons and exorcism,” per Futurism.
A chastened Rossetti responded with characteristic Catholic contrition: “I ask forgiveness for any ways that I have not been faithful to the teachings of the Church’s Magisterium.” Even exorcists, it turns out, have a boss.
