China has warned that the United States’ growing use of artificial intelligence in warfare could lead to a dangerous “Terminator-like” future.
China has warned that the increasing use of artificial intelligence by the United States military could create a dystopian future similar to the film The Terminator. A spokesman for China’s defence ministry, Jiang Bin, said allowing AI algorithms to make life-and-death decisions in warfare risks eroding ethical restraints and could lead to uncontrolled technological escalation.
The warning comes as the administration of Donald Trump expands the use of AI systems within the military. The Pentagon recently approved the use of Grok AI in classified operations while blacklisting the AI firm Anthropic after it refused to allow its Claude AI model to be used for mass surveillance and autonomous weapons systems.
