Dr. Robert Malone claims declassified records suggest the U.S. Lyme disease outbreak may be the result of secretive Cold War biological weapons experiments and the subsequent suppression of key scientific findings.
Biochemist Dr. Robert Malone has alleged that the modern U.S. Lyme disease epidemic originated from Cold War-era CIA bioweapon experiments, citing declassified documents and historical records linked to “Project 112” and research at the Plum Island federal laboratory. Malone’s report details the 1960s release of over 282,000 radioactive ticks in Virginia to track their spread and claims that the government suppressed research into a secondary pathogen known as the “Swiss Agent,” which may complicate current treatments.
While Department of Homeland Security officials have denied that Lyme disease was studied at Plum Island, Malone points to evidence from the late scientist Willy Burgdorfer, noting that “Burgdorfer’s notes indicate he was ‘told to omit the presence of at least one potential bioweapon’ during the Lyme investigation,” and further argues that the “Swiss Agent suppression for 40+ years demonstrates systematic institutional willingness to conceal public health information.”
