Coming to the USA: $250 banknote with Trump’s portrait

The Trump administration is facing controversy after reports that appointees at the Treasury Department have pushed for a $250 banknote featuring President Donald Trump’s portrait, according to The Washington Post.

The report says U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach and adviser Mike Brown urged the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to develop prototypes, including mock-ups showing Trump’s face on the note. That would break long-standing precedent in U.S. currency design, which typically avoids living figures.

A printing bureau director who resisted the push was later reassigned, raising internal concerns. Staff reportedly warned that the plan could conflict with federal law, which generally allows only deceased individuals on currency.

Officials argue the move is tied to America’s upcoming 250th anniversary celebrations, though critics say it raises legal and political red flags.

The Treasury says no bill will be printed without congressional approval.
