Denver is launching an ambitious plan to heat and cool downtown buildings without fossil fuels. The city will implement a thermal energy network, or “ambient loop,” leveraging geothermal power and heat recovered from wastewater, including sewage. Mayor Mike Johnston believes this pilot project, aiming for zero emissions by 2040, could be a cost-effective national model for urban decarbonization.
