Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard announced Friday that she is resigning from her post at the end of June to support her husband following a severe medical diagnosis. Gabbard’s departure follows weeks of unconfirmed White House rumors regarding her future in the administration.
In a resignation letter addressed to President Donald Trump, Gabbard explained that her husband, Abraham, was recently diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer. She wrote: “Unfortunately, I must submit my resignation, effective June 30, 2026. My husband, Abraham, has recently been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer. He faces major challenges in the coming weeks and months. At this time, I must step away from public service to be by his side and fully support him through this battle.”
Gabbard, an Army National Guard veteran and former congresswoman, joins a growing list of recent high-profile Cabinet departures.
