Ebola death toll in DRC tops 1,300 as outbreak spreads rapidly

The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has killed more than 1,300 people, with officials warning the virus is spreading faster than ever recorded.

Confirmed deaths have reached 1,309, while total confirmed cases have surged to 2,973, marking a sharp increase within days, according to Al Jazeera.

The outbreak is driven by the rare Bundibugyo strain, which currently has no approved vaccine or treatment. Health workers have been overwhelmed, with infections increasingly occurring outside known transmission chains, making containment harder for authorities.

Officials are urging stronger international support as the epidemic continues spreading across eastern DRC, raising fears it could become the country’s worst Ebola outbreak on record.
