EXPERTS WARN PREGNANT WOMEN AGAINST EXCESS SUGAR INTAKE

Health experts are urging pregnant women to reduce their sugar intake, warning that excessive consumption during pregnancy may affect their children’s brain development and mental health.

The warning follows growing evidence linking high maternal sugar intake to poorer cognitive performance, behavioural problems and an increased risk of mental health disorders in children later in life. Researchers said sugar-sweetened drinks and foods with added sugars are of particular concern, while naturally occurring sugars in fruits do not appear to carry the same risks.

According to the Daily Mail, experts advised expectant mothers to maintain a balanced diet, limit added sugars and choose healthier alternatives during pregnancy to support healthy brain development in their children.
