A former senior CIA officer is facing serious federal charges after investigators allegedly uncovered a massive stash of government assets, including hundreds of gold bars worth more than $40 million, hidden at his Virginia home. According to CNN, the former official, identified as David Rush, was arrested on a charge of theft of public money after an FBI investigation revealed discrepancies involving funds and valuables he had obtained for purported work-related expenses.
Federal agents reportedly seized more than 300 gold bars, around $2 million in cash, and dozens of luxury watches during searches linked to the case. Investigators also allege Rush falsified details about his military service and academic background while working in high-level government roles. He remains in custody pending further court proceedings and has not yet entered a plea.
