A German woman was sentenced to five years in prison for kidnapping and mistreating her daughter, whom she kept locked in a house for seven years while claiming they had moved abroad.
A German court has sentenced a woman to five years in prison for the harrowing confinement of her daughter, who was kept locked away for seven years. The girl, now 11, was freed in September 2022 from her grandparents’ home in Attendorn after being hidden since the age of four. Prosecutors revealed the mother fabricated a story about moving to Italy to sever the child’s contact with her father.
During her isolation, the girl was denied schooling and medical care, resulting in severe developmental issues. The grandparents also received suspended sentences for their roles as accomplices in the deception. The case has shocked the local community, leaving residents questioning how such prolonged isolation went unnoticed in their own neighborhood.
