Israel has warned it will target any successor to Ali Khamenei who continues his policies, as reports name Mojtaba Khamenei as a leading contender to become Iran’s next supreme leader
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned Wednesday that any successor to slain Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei who continues his policies would be an “unequivocal target for elimination.” The statement comes as reports suggest Khamenei’s son, Mojtaba Khamenei, has emerged as a leading candidate to replace his father following joint US-Israeli strikes that killed dozens of senior Iranian officials.
Katz said Israel’s military, operating under “Lion Roar” alongside the US campaign, would act against any regime figure pursuing threats against Israel or its allies. Iran is currently being overseen by a transitional council pending the selection of a new supreme leader by the Assembly of Experts, while Iranian state media has yet to confirm reports surrounding Mojtaba’s candidacy.
