Italy does not beg: Meloni rejects Trump’s G7 photo claim

Giorgia Meloni has slammed Donald Trump’s claim that she “begged” for a photo at the G7, calling it fabricated and triggering a diplomatic spat between Rome and Washington.

Giorgia Meloni isn’t having it. After Trump told Italian channel La7 that the PM “begged” him for a photo at the G7 in Évian — and that he only agreed out of pity — Meloni fired back hard. “Completely fabricated,” she said, adding she was “frankly astonished.” Her message: “Italy and I do not beg.”

The timing stings, too — the pair had seemed to patch things up at the summit just days earlier. Now Italy’s foreign minister has scrapped a US trip over it, and politicians across the spectrum are rallying behind Meloni, reports BBC.
