Former investigator Dave Smith believes the kidnapping of Savannah Guthrie’s mother likely involves a cross-border move to Mexico, complicating the high-profile search.
A retired Arizona law enforcement official suggests missing 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie may have been transported to Mexico. Dave Smith, a former Department of Public Safety lieutenant, cited Tucson’s proximity to the border and a suspect’s “Mexican carry” style holster as key indicators in the suspected kidnapping.
“My first thought is always Mexico in a major crime, because it’s a great haven,” Smith told Fox News Digital. He noted that while the rugged desert is a common place to “dump a body,” the intent behind Guthrie’s disappearance points southward. Smith also suggested local authorities may have delayed FBI involvement to avoid federal jurisdiction. Despite the discovery of “prehistoric” bones nearby on Thursday, Guthrie remains missing. “In this case, obviously there was somebody who was taken with intent,” Smith stated, emphasizing that Nogales offers an ideal hiding place.
