Maher to Trump: “The people did not do an uprising, the regime is still in place. We did not win.”

Bill Maher criticized President Trump’s claim of victory in the ongoing conflict with Iran, arguing that the administration’s objectives remain unfulfilled despite a ceasefire and reports of a gravely wounded Iranian leader.

During his Friday broadcast of “Real Time” on HBO, Bill Maher lambasted President Donald Trump for repeatedly declaring a victory in the war with Iran that Maher insists has not materialized. “The problem is he keeps saying we won, and we didn’t,” Maher told his audience, pointing out that the Strait of Hormuz remains contested and the Iranian regime remains in power despite the President’s “inflammatory and contradictory” claims on social media.

Satirizing the current state of hostilities as “less like a war and more like a Florida divorce,” Maher mocked the impact of the conflict on the global economy specifically a supposed condom shortage caused by shipping blockades while noting the irony of Trump’s shift from threats of civilization-destroying strikes to a more “chill” demeanor. Maher conceded that the U.S. has been effective at targeting high-level officials, referencing reports that the new Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, was “gravely wounded” and “badly burned” in recent strikes. However, Maher dismissed the notion of a strategic triumph, concluding that “we did not win, sorry,” and characterizing the administration’s primary tactic as “rubbing their noses in the victory we don’t have.”
