Mauricio Pochettino holds talks with AC Milan over vacant head coach position

USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino has held talks with AC Milan regarding their managerial vacancy just weeks before his contract expires at the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup.

United States men’s national team head coach Mauricio Pochettino recently met with representatives from AC Milan regarding the Italian club’s vacant head coach position. The meeting took place last week in advance of the USMNT’s World Cup training camp in Georgia, ahead of the upcoming tournament on home soil.

Pochettino’s current contract with the United States Soccer Federation expires after this summer’s World Cup. The 54-year-old manager is being considered alongside free agent Andoni Iraola to succeed Massimiliano Allegri, who was dismissed during a radical executive shake-up on Monday after Milan missed out on Champions League qualification.

Despite the high-profile meeting, Pochettino previously hinted in March that he remains open to extending his international tenure, stating: “We are open. We don’t have a contract for the future but why not if we are happy and the federation is happy?”
