Giorgia Meloni isn’t here for Donald Trump’s version of events. The Italian Prime Minister has slammed the US President for claiming she “desperately” wanted a photo with him at this week’s G7 summit in France, calling the story “totally fabricated.”
According to NBC News, Trump told Italian broadcaster La7 he only posed with Meloni out of sympathy. Meloni wasn’t amused, insisting, “I and Italy never beg.”
The fallout spread fast: Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani called the remarks offensive and scrapped a US trip, deepening cracks in Meloni and Trump’s once-cosy alliance.
