Millions of users worldwide found themselves locked out of Facebook and Instagram on Friday after a major service disruption hit Meta’s social media platforms. Users reported being unexpectedly logged out, unable to sign back in, and greeted by repeated error messages as the outage spread across multiple regions.
The disruption affected Facebook’s website, mobile app, and Messenger service, while Instagram users also experienced access issues, particularly on the web version. As confusion mounted, thousands flocked to X to check whether the problem was widespread.
According to Sahara Reporters, outage-tracking platform Downdetector recorded a sharp spike in complaints, indicating the issue was global rather than regional. Meta had not issued an official explanation or restoration timeline as of press time.
