Paul Pelosi, the husband of former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, has been charged with a misdemeanor hit-and-run after allegedly crashing into a parked vehicle and leaving the scene in Napa County, California.
According to The Independent, citing Napa County authorities, the 86-year-old was driving his brown convertible in Yountville on July 3 when he struck a legally parked, unoccupied car. Investigators said Pelosi briefly stopped before driving away. No injuries were reported, and officials confirmed he had no alcohol in his system at the time.
Prosecutors announced that Pelosi faces one misdemeanor count for failing to stop and exchange information after a property-damage crash, as required under California law. He was also cited for making an unlawful turn. Authorities said his vehicle sustained significant front-end damage consistent with the collision.
The sheriff’s office said Pelosi later told deputies he knew he had struck something but did not know what it was and continued driving until his vehicle became disabled. Court records did not list an attorney for Pelosi, while Nancy Pelosi’s office did not immediately comment on the charges.
Pelosi is scheduled to appear in court on August 14. The case comes four years after he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor DUI in Napa County, for which he received probation, fines, a drinking-driver education programme and an ignition interlock requirement. The Independent reported that prosecutors are proceeding with the latest case based on the available evidence from the July 3 incident.
