R. Kelly appeals to Trump for leniency, seeks reduction of 31-year sentence

R&B singer R. Kelly has formally requested US President Donald Trump commute his 31-year prison sentence for racketeering, sex trafficking, and child sexual abuse-related offences.

R. Kelly Appeals to Trump for Clemency, Seeks Sentence Cut

According to a report by The Sun Nigeria, documents released this week by the Office of the Pardon Attorney show Kelly submitted the clemency application to the US Department of Justice, seeking a sentence reduction rather than a full pardon. Kelly, 59, was convicted in 2021 on racketeering charges and again in 2022 on child sexual abuse material and enticement counts. He is serving his sentence at a federal prison in North Carolina and is not eligible for release until January 2046. His lawyer has lobbied Trump for clemency for over a year. Kelly has denied the allegations against him.
