Report: Pentagon advances plans for possible military action in Cuba

Reports that the Pentagon is preparing for possible action in Cuba highlight rising tensions as Trump signals potential intervention and Cuba vows resistance.

The Pentagon is reportedly developing contingency plans for a potential military operation in Cuba, according to sources cited by USA Today. The preparations come as Donald Trump continues to suggest possible intervention, recently stating, “We may stop by Cuba after we’re finished with this,” in reference to the ongoing Iran conflict.

Officials have not confirmed active planning, with United States Southern Command saying it was unaware of such efforts, while earlier testimony from General Francis Donovan denied any takeover preparations. However, reports indicate directives may have been issued from the White House, as Washington maintains pressure through sanctions, tariffs, and oil restrictions on the island.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has strongly criticised US actions, insisting, “Cuba is a free, independent and sovereign nation.” He warned that any conflict would be fiercely resisted, saying, “If that happens, there will be fighting… and if we need to die, we’ll die.” Public opinion in the US remains divided over Trump’s foreign policy approach.
