San Diego mosque shooting leaves three dead, teen suspects found dead

Two teenage gunmen killed three people at a San Diego mosque before dying by suicide, with authorities investigating the attack as a possible hate crime.

Two teenage gunmen are believed to have killed three people at the Islamic Center of San Diego on Monday before taking their own lives, police said, in what is being investigated as a possible hate crime.

San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl described the incident as “every community’s worst nightmare,” adding that investigators are examining possible hate-related motives.

Officers responded to reports of an active shooter at 11:43 a.m. and found three men dead outside the mosque, including a security guard described as “heroic” for helping prevent further casualties.

The suspects, identified by officials as Cain Clark, 17, and Caleb Vazquez, 18, were later found dead inside a vehicle from self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

Authorities said the suspects’ vehicle contained possible anti-Islamic writings, while a note from one suspect’s mother indicated suicidal intent and missing firearms before the attack.
