The 44-year-old, according to CNN, said in an Instagram post she was “heartbroken” to withdraw, adding that her knee “just isn’t ready to compete” despite doing everything she could. She shared images of syringes showing fluid drained from her knee after her three-set singles loss to 20-year-old Maya Joint of Australia on Tuesday. Serena hinted at a possible return before the U.S. Open. The Williams sisters, six-time Wimbledon women’s doubles champions, were to face Camila Osorio and Solana Sierra. Venus, 46, lost in mixed doubles on Friday with partner Kevin Krawietz.
