A domestic mass shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana, has left eight children dead and two women critically injured after a gunman opened fire before being killed by police.
A devastating domestic incident has shattered a quiet neighborhood in Shreveport, Louisiana, after Shamar Elkins allegedly killed eight children seven of whom were his own. Police Chief Wayne Smith expressed the city’s collective grief, stating, “I just don’t know what to say. My heart is just taken aback.” The violence began early Sunday when Elkins shot two women before targeting the children, ages 1 to 14. One child was tragically “shot and killed on the roof trying to escape.”
Following a carjacking and pursuit, officers “neutralized the suspect” in neighboring Bossier Parish. Mayor Tom Arceneaux called the event “maybe the worst tragic situation we’ve ever had in Shreveport.” As the community gathers to pray, City Council Chair Tabatha Taylor emphasized the need for support, noting, “This is the result when someone snaps.”
