Teen star Andreeva ends Chwalinska’s fairytale run in Paris

Mirra Andreeva announced herself on tennis’ biggest stage on Saturday, defeating surprise finalist Maja Chwalinska 6-3, 6-2 to win the French Open and secure her first Grand Slam title.

As The Athletic reports, the 19-year-old Russian delivered a composed display in Paris, overpowering the Polish qualifier with her consistency, movement and shot-making.

Chwalinska, ranked No. 114 in the world, had captured attention with a remarkable run from qualifying to the final, but Andreeva proved too strong when it mattered most.

The victory makes Andreeva the youngest French Open women’s champion since 1992, cementing her status as one of tennis’ brightest stars.
