Trump administration launches largest-ever effort to denaturalize American citizens accused of fraud, other crimes

The Trump administration is launching what officials describe as the largest-ever US effort to strip citizenship from naturalized Americans accused of fraud or serious crimes.

According to CBS News, the Justice Department is seeking to denaturalize 17 US citizens accused of concealing criminal conduct, committing immigration fraud or being ineligible for citizenship. Some cases involve convictions for child sex crimes, fraud, money laundering and false identities.

Officials said the move is part of a broader immigration crackdown, with Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche vowing “zero tolerance” for abuse of the naturalization process.

Those targeted can challenge the cases in federal court. If denaturalized, they would lose citizenship protections and could face deportation.
