Trump intervenes: The high stakes rescue mission for Iran’s Women’s National team

Donald Trump says he is coordinating with Anthony Albanese to assist members of the Iran Women’s National Football Team seeking protection in Australia after signaling for help during the Women’s Asian Cup.

Donald Trump said he is working with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to help members of the Iran Women’s National Football Team who reportedly sought protection while attending the Women’s Asian Cup in Australia. Concerns grew after several players were seen making hand signals for help as they left their team hotel, following a protest in which the team refused to sing Iran’s national anthem during a match.

Australian authorities placed at least five players under police protection while exploring possible asylum options. However, the situation remains complicated as some athletes fear retaliation against their families in Tehran if they refuse to return to Iran.
