Trump settles $10B IRS lawsuit over leaked tax returns

President Trump and the Justice Department have settled his $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS over the leaking of his tax returns by a government contractor.

President Donald Trump and the Justice Department have quietly settled a $10 billion lawsuit he filed against the IRS, according to Politico.

The suit, originally filed in January, accused the IRS of failing to properly oversee a contractor who leaked Trump’s personal tax returns. Trump, his sons, and his family business were all listed as plaintiffs.

According to Politico, Trump’s attorneys filed a notice Monday with a federal court in Miami dismissing the case. The settlement terms remain undisclosed.

The dismissal came before a scheduled hearing, after U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams had raised doubts about whether the case could legally proceed, noting that Trump was effectively both plaintiff and defendant in the litigation.

Spokespeople for Trump’s legal team and the DOJ did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
