US President Donald Trump sparked confusion during a Cabinet meeting after threatening to “blow up” Oman, a longtime US ally, over questions about control of the Strait of Hormuz, Daily Mail reports.
When asked about Oman’s role in mediating tensions with Iran, Trump insisted, “The strait will be open to everybody,” before warning, “Oman will behave just like everybody else or we’ll have to blow them up. They understand that.”
The remarks, made during discussions on the Iran war and oil transit routes, quickly raised questions in Washington about whether the president misspoke or was issuing a direct warning. The White House has not clarified the comment. Oman has long acted as a regional mediator between the US and Iran, including nuclear diplomacy efforts.
