The Middle East war just opened a dangerous new front. President Donald Trump threatened “major military punishment” against Iran and its Houthi allies on Thursday, after Yemeni fighters struck two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea, according to Reuters.
Brent crude jumped more than 6%, breaking through $100 a barrel for the first time since May. The attacks extend the conflict to a second major shipping chokepoint, adding to existing disruptions at the Strait of Hormuz.
Two Chinese supertankers carrying 4 million barrels of oil were reportedly attempting to exit the Red Sea via the Bab el-Mandeb Strait on Thursday. Trump said Iran would be held responsible for any further Houthi attacks.
