Venezuela quake death toll surges past 1,400 as aftershocks hamper rescue

Venezuela’s earthquake death toll has risen to at least 1,430 as international rescue teams expand operations and the hardest-hit region of La Guaira slowly restores power.

Venezuela’s earthquake disaster keeps getting worse — the death toll has now climbed to at least 1,430, and rescuers are racing against time to reach more survivors.

CNN reports more than 3,200 people have been injured, while over 3,100 families have lost their homes after Wednesday’s twin earthquakes. At least 430 aftershocks have rattled the region since, making the search even riskier for crews on the ground.

La Guaira remains the hardest-hit area, though about 60% of power has now been restored. Hospitals are overwhelmed as thousands remain displaced.

Help keeps arriving — more than 1,600 foreign rescuers from the US, France, Mexico, Spain and elsewhere are now on the ground, with more teams expected soon. Officials have also launched an emergency hotline to help track down missing persons.
