According to the New York Times, the Palestinian Authority’s health ministry said four people were killed and four wounded, three critically, while the Israeli military said two Israelis were killed and a third wounded, per Magen David Adom. Israeli officials said hikers were attacked near the village of Tell close to Nablus, claiming a group stole a security officer’s weapon and opened fire; the military later said it killed the alleged attacker.
Tell’s mayor, Walid Zeidan, gave a different account, saying settlers attacked the village after a verbal dispute escalated into a physical fight and shooting. He said he had no information suggesting residents fired first.
