According to Punch, citing an AFP agency report, Brussels said Google must begin sharing search data from January 2027, with Android changes taking effect from July 2027, allowing users to access preferred AI chatbots via voice command. EU tech chief Henna Virkkunen said the goal is to foster alternatives to Google Search and Gemini. Google’s Kent Walker pushed back, warning the move would expose users’ private searches “without adequate anonymisation… or user knowledge or consent.” Separately, sources told AFP that Google could face a fine next week in a different DMA investigation.
