According to ABC News, citing sources familiar with the matter, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission found Perez placed bets on Kalshi’s “Mentions” market for more than a dozen speeches, including the State of the Union and a Davos address. Kalshi’s lead lawyer Bobby DeNault said its surveillance team flagged the trades and referred them to the CFTC. White House spokesperson Davis Ingle said Perez is “fully cooperating” with regulators. Federal prosecutors in Manhattan reportedly declined to open a criminal case, and regulators have discussed a settlement requiring Perez to return his profits.
