FA To Ditch Infantino Backing As Uefa Threatens Legal Action

The English Football Association is set to write to Fifa president Gianni Infantino withdrawing its support amid fallout from his scrapped plans to sell stakes in Fifa competitions to private investors, BBC Sport reported.

It comes as Uefa threatens legal action over the proposals, with Wales, Serbia and Finland also withdrawing backing for Infantino’s bid for a fourth term next March, when he would need 106 votes from Fifa’s 211 members.

Uefa, in a letter first reported by The Telegraph, said it is “actively considering legal action, arbitration, and/or regulatory complaints” and demanded Fifa preserve all documents linked to the plan.

Uefa vice-president Laura McAllister called the process “abysmal,” while Qatar, Lebanon, Kuwait and Sri Lanka have pledged continued support for Infantino.
