US military emails troops for fresh ideas to punish Iran

The US military has asked its own analysts to brainstorm new ways to pressure Iran, signalling that Washington’s options for forcing a deal are running thin.

Pentagon Seeks ‘Creative’ Ways To Punish Iran

A senior US Central Command officer sent an email last week asking military analysts for “creative and unconventional ways to pressure and punish Iran,” CNN reported, citing sources familiar with the message.

The unusual crowdsourcing request came from an officer in CENTCOM’s intelligence branch and was described by officials as rare for such correspondence.

CENTCOM spokesperson Capt. Timothy Hawkins said the command has “a long history of thinking and working in innovative ways,” adding that Admiral Cooper often consults staff “regardless of rank.”

The email landed before President Donald Trump threatened fresh strikes on Iran, then abruptly called them off over the weekend after Saudi Arabia’s crown prince urged de-escalation.

Weeks of US air strikes have targeted Iran’s ability to threaten Gulf shipping, but a negotiated deal remains elusive, with officials weighing whether to intensify the bombing campaign or explore other pressure tactics.
