The United States has concentrated a historic share of its naval and air power in the Middle East, boosting military readiness for potential action against Iran while diplomatic efforts continue.
The United States Navy has deployed roughly one-third of its active fleet to the Middle East, marking the largest American military buildup in the region since the Iraq War, according to a report by The Washington Post. The deployment includes more than 150 aircraft and two carrier strike groups, giving Donald Trump expanded options ranging from targeted strikes to a sustained high-intensity campaign against Iran.
The buildup features the aircraft carriers USS Gerald R. Ford, positioned near Crete, and USS Abraham Lincoln, stationed off Oman, effectively placing pressure on Iran from multiple directions. Analysts say the expanded presence, alongside aircraft deployments to regional and European bases, signals readiness for a prolonged operation if diplomatic talks fail, even as officials maintain diplomacy remains the preferred option.
