New DNA analysis has conclusively linked serial killer Ted Bundy to the 1974 murder of Utah teenager Laura Ann Aime, resolving a decades-old cold case.
New DNA testing has confirmed that notorious serial killer Ted Bundy was responsible for the 1974 killing of 17-year-old Laura Ann Aime in Salt Lake City’s wider region, authorities said Wednesday. Aime disappeared after leaving a Halloween party alone and was later found dead along a highway in American Fork Canyon.
Investigators had long suspected Bundy, who confessed to the killing before his 1989 execution but gave no details. Officials said advances in forensic technology introduced in 2023 allowed analysts to extract usable DNA from preserved evidence, producing a definitive match. “Laura Aime is the quintessential daughter of Utah County,” Sgt. Mike Reynolds said.
Speaking at a news conference, Aime’s sister, Michelle Impala, said, “It’s really quite amazing that people are even still interested in Laura’s case.” Authorities say the identification could help resolve other suspected killings linked to Bundy.
