Bolsonaro’s Son Enters Race Against Lula
Brazil’s right-wing Liberal Party formally nominated Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, 45, as its presidential candidate on Saturday, setting up a showdown with 80-year-old incumbent Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, according to Dailymail.
“Bolsonaro blood flows here!” Flavio told a cheering Sao Paulo crowd, invoking his imprisoned father, who is serving a 27-year sentence for plotting a coup.
Argentina’s Javier Milei showed up to back him, warning of a “Lula risk,” AFP reported. But Flavio’s campaign has been rocked by scandal — leaked ties to a disgraced banker, a public feud with stepmother Michelle Bolsonaro, and fresh US tariffs from ally Donald Trump.
A Datafolha poll released Friday put Lula ahead in a runoff, 48 percent to 43 percent.
