Cuba has warned it will resist any US attack as tensions escalate over sanctions, military threats, and regional developments.
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has declared that Cuba would defeat any US military action, speaking at a ceremony marking the 65th anniversary of the Bay of Pigs invasion. Dressed in military fatigues, he told supporters, “We do not seek it, but it is our duty to prepare to avert it, and, should it prove inevitable, to win it.”
The remarks come amid escalating tensions with US President Donald Trump, who recently hinted at possible military action against Cuba. Strains have intensified following a US operation in Venezuela that captured Nicolás Maduro, a key Cuban ally, and led to the deaths of Cuban personnel. Washington has also imposed an oil blockade, worsening Cuba’s economic crisis.
Cuban officials say the country is preparing for potential conflict while rejecting US demands for political change. Raúl Castro remains an influential figure behind the scenes, according to his daughter Mariela Castro, who said, “We are not alarmed… We are busy… We are preparing.”
