Trump is weighing military and economic options against Iran as the Strait of Hormuz crisis drives sharp rises in global oil and US fuel prices.
US President Donald Trump is reportedly considering new military options in the Iran conflict, including deploying ground troops to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and sending special forces to seize enriched uranium. Reports said top advisers will brief him on measures aimed at forcing Tehran back to negotiations, while CENTCOM also proposed “short and powerful” strikes on Iranian infrastructure.
The escalating standoff has rattled global markets, with Brent crude briefly rising above $126 per barrel before falling below $115. US gasoline prices reportedly climbed to $4.30 per gallon, their highest since 2022. Trump is said to favour an extended naval blockade on Iranian ports, which officials described as the least risky option among those presented.
