A Washington Post satellite analysis reveals Iran inflicted significantly more damage on U.S. military infrastructure across the Middle East than the government has publicly disclosed.
Iranian airstrikes have damaged or destroyed at least 228 structures and pieces of equipment at U.S. military sites across the Middle East since the war began, according to a Washington Post satellite imagery analysis — far exceeding what the U.S. government has publicly acknowledged.
The strikes hit hangars, barracks, fuel depots, aircraft, radar systems and air defense equipment across 15 U.S. military sites. Seven service members have died and over 400 sustained injuries since hostilities began February 28.
Experts warn the scale of destruction suggests the U.S. military underestimated Iran’s targeting capabilities and failed to adequately adapt to modern drone warfare. Two officials indicated U.S. forces may never return to some regional bases in large numbers.
