President Donald Trump said the ceasefire between the United States and Iran is hanging by a thread after rejecting Tehran’s latest proposal, while tensions over the Strait of Hormuz continue to fuel global oil concerns.
President Donald Trump said the ceasefire between the United States and Iran is on “massive life support” after rejecting Tehran’s latest proposal to end hostilities, according to CNN. Speaking at the White House on Monday, Trump described the agreement as “unbelievably weak” and warned that negotiations remained unstable as both sides continued exchanging accusations.
Trump said Iran’s counterproposal was “simply unacceptable,” insisting Tehran “cannot have a nuclear weapon.” He also accused Iranian leaders of repeatedly changing their positions during negotiations, saying they “agree with us and then they take it back.” Iran, however, defended its proposal as “reasonable” and “generous,” while tensions around the Strait of Hormuz continued to disrupt global oil markets. Oil prices climbed amid fears the strategic shipping route could remain closed for longer, raising concerns over prolonged energy supply disruptions, CNN reported.
