Cuba says it has completely run out of fuel, blames U.S. embargo

Cuba’s energy system is nearing total collapse as officials report a complete depletion of diesel stocks, sparking a diplomatic feud with the U.S. over aid and sanctions.

Cuba’s energy minister warned Wednesday that the nation’s electrical grid is on “life support” as fuel stocks have run dry. According to UPI, Minister Vincente de la O Levy confirmed, “We have absolutely no diesel,” leaving the island dependent on limited domestic crude and gas.

In Havana, residents face blackouts exceeding 20 hours daily. President Miguel Díaz-Canel blamed a “genocidal energy blockade” by the U.S. for the crisis. However, Washington claims the Cuban government has rebuffed a $100 million humanitarian aid offer.

Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla dismissed the U.S. claim as a “$100 million lie.” Meanwhile, the State Department maintains the funds are available but alleges the “corrupt regime” prefers to funnel state assets into overseas accounts rather than repairing the failing infrastructure.
