Middlesbrough has demanded Southampton be expelled from the Championship play-off final following “Spygate” allegations, while Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic warns against postponing the Wembley showpiece.
Southampton face potential expulsion from the Championship play-off final following allegations of systematic spying on rivals. Middlesbrough, defeated by Tonda Eckert’s side in the semi-finals, have demanded the Saints be thrown out of next Saturday’s clash against Hull City, calling it “the only appropriate response.”
According to The Telegraph, the EFL has received evidence suggesting Southampton spied on multiple clubs’ training sessions this season. While the Saints pleaded guilty to watching a Middlesbrough session, an independent panel will now rule on further claims of widespread espionage.
Hull manager Sergej Jakirovic has urged the EFL not to postpone the final, citing player welfare concerns over a long lay-off. “The game must be Saturday,” Jakirovic told Telegraph Sport. “Because how can I keep focus and concentration for the players if they will postpone this game?” A verdict is expected by Tuesday.
