Cuba warns US military action would cause ‘bloodbath’ after drone report

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel warned that any U.S. military intervention would result in a regional “bloodbath” following reports that Cuba acquired drones to target American military sites.

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel warned Monday that U.S. military action against the island would lead to a “bloodbath” with incalculable consequences for regional stability.

“Cuba does not represent a threat,” Diaz-Canel posted on X.

According to Reuters, his comments follow an Axios report alleging Cuba acquired over 300 military drones to attack U.S. targets, including Guantanamo Bay. Havana claims Washington is fabricating a pretext for intervention amid severe fuel and power shortages driven by U.S. energy sanctions. Tensions are also mounting over potential U.S. plans to indict 94-year-old former leader Raul Castro.

On Havana’s streets, residents vowed resistance. “If they come, they will have to fight, because Cuba will respond. My country, hungry or however it may be, will respond. It is better that they do not come because there will be a fight,” said Sandra Roseaux, 57.
