A Canadian woman working as an intern at NATO’s military headquarters in Belgium has been arrested on suspicion of spying for a foreign country, Belgian prosecutors say.

According to Global news, Belgian prosecutors said a Canadian woman of Chinese origin, who interned at NATO’s Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Mons, was arrested Friday on suspicion of spying for a third country and belonging to a criminal organisation.
The Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office did not disclose her identity or name the country she allegedly spied for. SHAPE’s security services first flagged her to Belgian intelligence, prompting searches of her home and workplace.
A SHAPE spokesperson said the incident hasn’t affected NATO operations, command arrangements, or ongoing tasks, adding that the headquarters “continues to fulfil its responsibilities without interruption.” Prosecutors said no further comments would be made as investigations continue.
