The U.S. Senate rejected a resolution to end military operations against Iran, hours after the House passed a similar measure demanding troop withdrawal.
Senate blocks measure to halt Iran war
Congress just delivered a split verdict on Trump’s Iran campaign.
According to Harbinger’s Daily, the Senate voted 47–49 on Thursday to block a war powers resolution introduced by Sen. Chris Van Hollen, with Sen. John Fetterman siding with Republicans against it while Sen. Susan Collins crossed the aisle to support it. Four GOP senators didn’t vote.
The rejection came just hours after the House narrowly passed its own resolution 214–208, directing Trump to withdraw forces from hostilities with Iran unless Congress authorizes continued action.
Trump notified Congress on July 10 that hostilities had resumed following alleged Iranian attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The Senate’s rejection means the administration retains operational freedom as the constitutional dispute over war powers continues.
