Canada and Russia expand sanctions lists in latest diplomatic clash

Canada slapped new sanctions on over 160 Russian targets while Moscow retaliated by barring 103 Canadian officials and public figures from its territory.

Sanctions season is heating up between Ottawa and Moscow.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced fresh measures Tuesday targeting Russia’s defence industry, energy revenue, and shadow fleet, affecting more than 162 individuals, entities, and vessels, according to Daily Post. That brings Canada’s running tally to over 3,000 targets and 600 vessels sanctioned against Moscow in recent months.

Russia wasted no time clapping back. Moscow published its own list barring 103 Canadians, including senators, MPs, and the country’s defence chief, from entering its territory.

The Kremlin accused the named officials of undermining Russia’s constitutional order and backing asset seizures, while also slamming Carney’s government for continuing what it called Trudeau-era support for Kyiv’s “neo-Nazi authorities.”
