Canada could increase exports to China by 100% – Foreign Minister

Canada may double its exports to China, according to remarks highlighted in a Reuters report.

China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi, speaking during a diplomatic visit to Canada, said bilateral trade could see a dramatic boost, with Canadian exports potentially rising by as much as 100% over time if cooperation continues to deepen.

The comments come as both countries look to stabilise and expand economic ties amid shifting global trade pressures and ongoing efforts by Canada to diversify its export markets beyond the United States. Officials on both sides also pointed to agriculture, energy, and critical minerals as key growth areas.

Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand welcomed stronger engagement, stressing the importance of a “stable and predictable” relationship with China for long-term economic planning.

The report by Reuters notes that the discussions reflect a broader push to reset Canada–China relations after years of tension.
